Aid Policy Reform

The EU's aid programme provides more than of all world Official Development Assistance. The common aid programme, managed by the European Commission, is one of the largest programmes, making up one-tenth of all world ODA. The fight against poverty is one of the objectives of this programme; but is it achieving this?

There is broad consensus that the role of Europe in the world needs to be strengthened. While recognising the need for this, the question emerges whether there will be space for an approach of an independent policy geared towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
